End-of-Life for Drupal 7: What Does This Mean for My Website?

Drupal end of life

DRUPAL 7 END-OF-LIFE

WHAT IS DRUPAL?

Drupal is an open-source content management system used by many individuals and businesses to build and maintain websites. Simply put, it’s the foundation on which millions of people and organizations build their websites. Drupal 7 is a version of Drupal software, similar to how IOS 7 is a version of IOS software used for iPhones.

Drupal’s software includes standard features such as easy content authoring, reliable performance, and excellent security measures. All Drupal versions are open-source, meaning all security fixes are provided through community support and Drupal Associates.

WHAT DOES END-OF-LIFE MEAN AND HOW DOES IT HAPPEN?

Drupal 7 security support ends on 5 January 2025. This is the final extension of Drupal 7 end of life – Drupal 7 will not receive security support after this date.

Without new updates, Drupal 7 sites won’t have access to newer, desirable features or necessary maintenance to improve the site’s security! Websites that remain on the software will remain as is for the foreseeable future until archived.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ME AND MY BUSINESS?

If your website is built on Drupal 7 and you’d like to continue adding and updating content on it, our team of website professionals recommends NOT continuing with this version of the CMS. In most cases, this means rebuilding your website as a whole due to the differences between Drupal 7 and the latest Drupal versions and the maintenance it will require. If a third party handles your website maintenance, contact them and see what your options are.

If Kinetix handles your website maintenance, dedicated account executives will be contacting Drupal 7 customers to discuss the recommended options specific to each website.

Don’t wait until January 2025 to look into your website’s future!

Investing in your website today will ultimately save time and possibly money for your business down the road.
